Great Litany
-
For ourselves, for our families, and for all our relations
-
that we may remember you at all times
and seek always to live as you desire;
-
For this gathering of your people
-
that we may truly love and praise you;
-
For those we know who are sick or injured,
for those whose bodies or minds have weakened,
for those who experience brokenness or loss
-
that they may find strength to live faithfully,
that they may have comfort today
and joy in your presence;
-
For our ministers and elders, for our bishops,
and for all who oversee the life of your Church
-
that they may live in your presence
and guide us by the example of your love;
-
For our work together, by our own words and hands
and by the agency of our sisters and brothers throughout the world
-
that our work may always be your work;
-
For our nation's President, for all the members of our Congress,
for the Governor of our state, for the members of the Legislature,
and for all leaders of government everywhere
-
that they govern wisely in the interests of all people;
-
For the justices of the Supreme Courts of our nation and our state,
for all judges and magistrates, and for all jurors
-
that they may uphold justice
and defend the poor and the oppressed;
-
For those who wield force in our name,
for the members of law enforcement and of the armed forces
-
that they may defend the poor and the oppressed
and that they may not fall into sin;
-
For the victims of crime, of violence, or of war,
for those who live in fear, for the powerless,
and for those subjected to oppression
-
that they may know your power
and may be released from their captivity;
-
For the perpetrators of crime, of violence, and of war,
for those who create fear and terror,
for the powerful and those who oppress others
-
that they may know your power
and may be released from their captivity;
-
For ourselves and for all others
when we have strayed from your path,
when we have wasted your gifts,
when we have put ourselves or our causes
in the place which belongs only to you
-
that you will forgive us and welcome us home.
-
We pray these things as the people of Jesus Christ
who conquered death
-
and who has made us more than conquerers
through the power of love.
